Godi Gutierrez

GODI GUTIERREZ IS EXCLUSIVELY REPRESENTED BY ETGALLERIES

Born in 1943 and raised in the Philippines, Godi David Gutierrez attended the University of the East, where he focused on Fine Arts, Sculpture and Architecture and also studied Philosophy, Psychology and Ethics at the University of the Philipines. Starting his own construction company while still a student, he bought his first camera to record construction accomplishments, and the same year won top honors in his first photo competition. In 1973 he founded and established Photo-technique Portrait Studios. From 1975 to 1983 he was cover photographer for Women's Magazine. He moved to San Francisco in 1989.

Godi's long career in visual arts began with the study of architecture, but grew to embrace photography and design, both of which he blends masterfully in his current works. Educated in the arts, philosophy, and psychology at the University of the East and University of the Philippines in Manila, he became an entrepreneur early on, founding a successful construction company while still a student. As a young photographer, he opened and managed three portrait studios and a professional color lab. He was cover photographer for Women's Magazine from 1975-1983, and throughout his career his photographs have won numerous awards and have been exhibited in various museums and galleries in the Philippines. Moving to San Francisco in 1989, he became known as a designer of everything from toys to books to web pages. He has recently chosen, however, to simplify his life by focusing on fine art.

Throughout his life, as background to all his work, Godi Gutierrez has sought to be an agent of transformation. Perhaps that is why he has chosen the medium and style which he currently works in: like an alchemist, he blends his art and medium to offer the viewer a simple and profound experience of inner peace.
