Helpful Advice For Starting Your Own Cleaning Business

You might be surprised, but studies have shown that office cleaning can lead to greater productivity in not only yourself, but your entire workforce. A clean environment stimulates the brain and focuses ideas. This is from an esoteric perspective (though it has been shown to be true). From a practical perspective, a clean environment is an organized one. You can get more work done when you have to spend less time looking for the tools you need. Granted, if it has been a while since the last big clean it can look like an overwhelming job. It doesn’t have to be, however.

To start, all you need is a vacuum, and a car full of cleaning supplies for every situation. To get some quick customers, you can walk around an office complex and cold call the different businesses. Most will say that they already have someone, but you might find people that are not happy with their current service and will take you up on it.

I’ve raved so much about the great service the company has provided that several of my friends have used the company as well. One of my friends recently bought a house, and the company sent out a team to clean her old apartment and freshen up her new house prior to her move-in date. Another acquaintance was building his own home, and had the company come in to do construction clean-up. When my neighbor was getting ready to paint the exterior of his house, the cleaning service came out to do pressure washing. I even referred the service I use to my boss, who ended up hiring them to do office cleaning. But I was most shocked when my friend Kristie – the one who loves to clean – asked me for the company’s number so they could help her with spring cleaning.

I’m especially pleased with the company I’ve found because they’re very flexible. They’ll do a one-time cleaning, or weekly, biweekly, or monthly cleanings. It’s up to me. Their standard service includes a wide variety of tasks, but I can also arrange for them to do everything from cleaning the inside of my refrigerator to cleaning my backyard deck.

Because your clients can always find your address, you need to keep your home clean and presentable in case one decides to stop by, not realizing your office is at home.

Give your employees and clients time to prepare. As we said before, you’re not the only one moving here. Warn your clients and employees of your plans way ahead of time. This will give your employees a chance to find a new place to rent, if necessary.

Clean your desk at least once a week. After you tidy up your papers and stuff, this is the place that needs to be cleaned first. Use a soft cloth and any spray cleaner to wipe down your computer, monitor, keyboard, speakers, telephone, lamp, pencil holders, paper stackers, and anything else. Do not spray your cleaner directly onto the objects; simply spray your cloth and wipe them clean. Make sure your computer and monitor are turned off before cleaning.

In choosing a provider, make sure you know what is included in your contract. Some provide only basic transportation services. Others include furniture planning and procurement, interior design, electronic installations, even office cleaning. Choose according to your company’s own needs, and don’t take shortcuts, which are guaranteed to cost you more in the long run.
